Why, What, How

Why work with me

I am a Psychotherapist and Counselor with specialist training in all forms of addiction, including food, sex, social media, drugs and alcohol. I am passionate about helping individuals and family members break destructive patterns, build healthy relationships and gain control of their lives. I am trained in a wide range of therapeutic modalities and draw on them appropriately, to inform the tailored approach I bring to working with you and your unique story.

What is Therapy

Therapy is a collaborative dialogue with a skilled professional. It goes deeper than coaching or counseling and aims to help you gain insight into your thinking and behavior, so that you can change your behavior. A therapist won’t tell you what to do. They’ll share their perspective on what they hear you saying or not saying, to help you make the changes you want or need to make. Addiction, rewires your brain and highjacks your ability to  think clearly. It is psychologically difficult to change rewired thinking and ingrained behavior without professional help.

How it works

Find out what others have asked about therapy, counseling or coaching for addiction, relapse prevention and recovery and how it works. You can keep doing what you’re doing and get what you always get, or you can try something different. Good intentions are helpful, but intention without action is just wishful thinking. You have to change the behavior to change the thinking. It rarely works the other way around and without help, it’s not usually successful.

My background

I am a seasoned psychotherapist with over a decade of clinical experience in working with addiction, co-dependency, trauma, and co-occurring mental health conditions. My academic background includes a PhD in Pharmacology from the Medical College of Virginia, an MSc in Addiction Psychology and Counseling from a London University, and a BS in Biology from Drexel University.

I have trained and worked at renowned institutions including The Meadows (Arizona), The Priory Hospital (London), Oxford University Mindfulness Centre, and the Gestalt Centre (London) to name a few. While residing in Europe, I worked in the Addiction Treatment and Trauma Recovery programs at The Priory (London) and in private practice in Europe and the US. Addiction is not a moral failing, it is a problematic solution to a problem that one does not have the capacity or skills to manage. Fortunately, capacity and skills can be developed, and we can change our behaviors.

I am a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (PA#14792), a member of the National Association for Addiction Professionals (Member# 301741), carry professional indemnity insurance, and engage in continuing professional education. I am accredited to work in the USA, UK and Europe.
